BBC defends againts charges of bias from Somali officials

The British Broadcasting Corporation has refused the order by militants to shut down operations in Somalia and denies charges of bias.

The al-Shabaab militant group has banned BBC and Voice of America broadcasts in the areas under their control, accusing the agencies of broadcasting Christian ideas and unfavorable news.

A statement released by the BBC Saturday rejected the allegations, saying they will continue to work and uphold the standards of international journalism and editorial independence. The BBC said it is ready to discuss the matter with all sides in Somalia, including al-Shabaab.

Jerry Timmins, the head of BBC Africa, said the organization spoke to all sides in the conflict and stated that the BBC adheres to strict standards of impartiality and editorial independence.
