Doctor Mohamed Yusuf, the Director of Madina Hospital in Mogadishu, told Tiziano that three of the victims admitted to the hospital later died from their wounds.
Twelve civilians and three combatants were killed in this latest clash between government and insurgent forces, according to medics and officials.
"I have seen three dead men on one street after a brief lull," Sacdiyo Hassan, an eyewitness in the Bakaara market, told Tiziano.
Somalia has been without a central government since 1991, when clan militias and warlords overthrew the dictatorial regime of Siad Barre and subsequently fought each other, plunging the nation into 20 years of anarchy and war.
