Somali Journalist Abducted in Mogadishu

Unidentified gunmen have abducted a local journalist in the Somali capital of Mogadishu. Abdikarim Mohamed Hersi was taken from the IQK radio station after three gunmen entered the building and pulled him into a car.

"He was taken by men claiming to be Al-Shabaab, who ordered him to follow," a colleague at the station who asked not to be named told Tiziano. "We don't know where he was taken or why."

Somalia is one of the most dangerous places to work as a journalist because warring groups coerce the media to air favorable reports or face violence.

The horn of Africa nation has been without a government since 1991 after dictator Mohamed Siad Barre was ousted from power by clan and warlord militias.
