Two bomb blasts at a mosque killed 50 people and injured 95 others in Mogadishu, Somalia on May 1.
"We believe the attack was conducted by one of the two rival rebel groups," Dahir Mohamud Gelle, Somalia's Minister of Information, told Tiziano. The blast occurred as worshipers were lining up for noon prayers.
"It was horrifying, I saw many dead people, I am lucky to survive," eyewitness Abdullahi Mohamed said.
Al-Shabaab, the insurgent group that controls most of Mogadishu, confirmed that Sheikh Fuad Mohamed Qalaf, an official on the U.S terrorist list, was injured in the attack.
"The sheikh was wounded in the attack conducted by foreign security agents," Sheikh Ali Mohamud Rage, an Al-Shabaab spokesman, told reporters.
The two bombs were detonated almost simultaneously and many people killed were aligned with Al-Shabaab, according to a nurse at Daynile hospital north of Mogadishu, where most of the victims were taken.
