Suicide bomber charges African Union base with truck of explosives
A suicide bomber driving a truck full of explosives has been killed by African Union peacekeepers in Mogadishu, Somalia, after he charged towards the AU's base.
"The anti-peace elements attempted a desperate suicide attack on our troops," Major Barigye Ba-Hoku, the spokesman for the AU peacekeeping force in Mogadishu, told Tiziano.
"Before he came close to our base to blow up the truck we saw him and destroyed the vehicle and killed him," he said.
Somalia has been without a central government since 1991 when clan militias and warlords overthrew the dictatorial regime of Siad Barre and subsequently fought each other, plunging the nation into 20 years of anarchy and war.
