Football for Peace

Football for Peace is a coed soccer program aimed at promoting gender equality in the Great Lakes region, which has suffered greatly through gender violence in recent years. The program is run by Esperance, an association based at Maison des Jeunes de Kimisagara in Kigali, Rwanda. Only the girls are allowed to score in the games, which are well attended and very popular. Between games members of Esperance perform sketches on AIDS awareness and on peace and reconciliation. Tiziano photographers Passy Uwitonze, Angelique Ingabire, and Emmanuel Ntirenganya are members of Esperance and have used their photography skills to document their work.
